Rule 1 is now up on the wall – no playing musical instruments between numbers at rehearsal. It was either that or connect the guitars and drums up to the mains with a switch timed to come on every 15 minutes or so. What it is about musos – can you imagine that at a meeting > Between every item on the agenda everyone just stands up and starts shouting randomly for no apparent reason. Not such a bad idea really I suppose. . . Well we’re away at last. 30+ numbers in the set list, sound engineer ready to go couple of bookings in the diary. We took a few of the promo packs around some places last week so hopefully should get some responses from those. Need to get round a few more places now really and phone back those we’ve been to.
On another note – songlists. I think the danger with a band is to fall into the trap of doing too many ballads- especially when you have two girl singers. We did an Eva Cassidy type version of “Ain’t no sunshine” tonight sounded really good but there’s a limit to how many of these people will want to listen to so it’s a lot of work to get one song right that you may very rarely play. I distinctly remember the feeling at the last wedding we did of thinking – be glad when these slow ones are out of the way because you could feel people wanting an excuse to get up. But having said all that over 75% are fast so we’ve plenty of material now. Wil was not well tonight so couldn’t make and George had to stay late at work. Hattie was off to look round a university so only the three of us but it was a good session. We’ve just covered rolling in the deep by Adele so that’s a good song. We also need time to do a few more originals we stalled with don’ like Tuesdays and need to get that back on track. Hard work being in a band. – but worth every minute. Well …….. every other minute anyway.
